about michael

I received my Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) at UCLA in the Spring of 2022. Specializing in critical archival studies and public librarianship, I’m interested in the ethics of access and preservation; oral history storytelling; and user-centered systems design. I believe that by studying with a critical lens the foundations, theories, processes, and ethics that undergird the information systems we interact with on a daily basis – from libraries, archives, and museums to search engines – we can better understand and interrogate systems of power, thereby helping us envision and enact more just futures.

I live in Los Angeles and am a Young Adult Librarian at L.A. Public Library’s Central Library in their Teen’Scape department. I’m also an oral history interview transcriber for Texas After Violence Project (TAVP) helping to document the voices of individuals impacted by state violence and mass incarceration.

I’m the creator, host, and producer of the podcast Same Wavelength, which explores creative expression and the relationship between the personal and the political through the artists’ lens. The first season of the podcast includes conversations with Merrill Garbus from Tune-Yards, Henry Rollins, Kamasi Washington, David Crosby, Alynda Segarra from Hurray for the Riff Raff, Anaïs Mitchell, and Archie Shepp.

I’ve previously worked as Digital Asset Specialist at the L.A. Philharmonic and as Digital Asset Management Coordinator at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, where I helped implement and manage the Huntington’s growing network of integrated digital systems including their first-ever Digital Asset Management System.

Prior to moving to Los Angeles in 2018, I spent eight years conducting and producing hundreds of interviews with artists, business owners, and community leaders throughout Western New England as Production Director and On-Air Host at WRSI-FM 93.9 The River in Northampton, MA.

I studied Radio & Television Production (with an Audio Concentration and a minor in Art History) at Ithaca College’s Park School of Communications, where I graduated in 2010. During my senior year, I was Program Director for the college’s radio station, WICB-FM 91.7.

I’m a founding member of the band Bunk.
